Description
Acnecide contains benzoyl peroxide 5%, a treatment applied to the skin for mild to moderate acne. It reduces the bacteria involved in acne and helps to unblock pores, and it does not contain an antibiotic. Wash and dry the skin, then apply the gel thinly to the whole affected area rather than to individual spots, usually once daily to begin with.
Dryness, redness, peeling and a mild stinging feeling are common in the first few weeks and usually settle; starting every other day, or leaving it on for a short time before washing off, can make it easier to tolerate. Benzoyl peroxide bleaches hair and fabric, so keep it away from clothing, towels, bedding and hairlines, and it makes skin more sensitive to sunlight.
Avoid the eyes, lips, mouth and broken skin. Acne responds slowly, so allow at least six to eight weeks of regular use before judging the effect.
