Description
Aproderm Barrier Cream is a barrier preparation applied to skin that is exposed to moisture, rubbing or irritants. On a baby it is used at nappy changes, spread thinly over the clean, dry nappy area so that a film sits between the skin and urine or stool. It is also used on adult skin under a dressing edge, around a stoma or where incontinence keeps skin damp.
Clean and dry the skin first, then apply a thin layer; a thick layer does not work better and can stop a nappy absorbing. It is not a steroid and not an antifungal, so a rash that is spreading, blistering or not settling within a few days needs to be assessed rather than covered.
