Description
Clairette contains cyproterone acetate 2mg with ethinylestradiol 35 micrograms. It is licensed for women of reproductive age for moderate to severe acne related to sensitivity to androgens, with or without seborrhoea, and for hirsutism, where topical treatment and oral antibiotics have not worked well enough. It also acts as a hormonal contraceptive, so a second hormonal contraceptive should not be taken alongside it, but it is not licensed to be used for contraception alone.
One tablet is taken daily in the order marked on the pack, usually for 21 days followed by a tablet-free or inactive interval. Treatment is normally stopped three to four cycles after the skin or hair problem has resolved. The risk of a blood clot in a vein is higher than with several other combined pills, and higher again in the first year of use.
Tell your prescriber about migraine, high blood pressure, smoking, immobility, or any family history of clots.
