Description

Dovonex Ointment contains calcipotriol 50 micrograms per gram, a vitamin D analogue and not a corticosteroid. It slows the overproduction of skin cells that builds the scaly plaques of psoriasis, and is used for plaque psoriasis. Apply it thinly to the plaques, usually twice a day, keeping it off the surrounding healthy skin.

A maximum amount applies each week, and if you use any other calcipotriol product the total counts towards the same limit. It is not for use on the face, and hands are washed after applying it so that none is carried to the face by accident. Irritation, redness or a burning feeling on treated skin is the most common problem.

Psoriasis settles slowly, so several weeks of treatment are usual before the effect is judged. Tell your prescriber if you have kidney problems or a disorder of calcium in the blood.
