Description
Elleste Solo tablets contain estradiol and are an oestrogen-only hormone replacement therapy. One tablet is taken each day at about the same time, with no break between packs, and treatment is usually started at the lower strength and adjusted according to symptoms. Because the tablets contain oestrogen alone, they thicken the lining of the womb over time, so a progestogen is prescribed alongside for women who still have a womb; women who have had a hysterectomy usually take oestrogen on its own.
HRT carries small increases in the risk of breast cancer, blood clots in the legs and lungs, and stroke, and the size of these depends on your age, your own history and how long treatment lasts. It is not a contraceptive. Tell your prescriber about unexplained vaginal bleeding, and about any history of blood clots, breast cancer or liver disease.
