Description

Epiduo Gel combines adapalene 0.1%, a retinoid-like medicine, with benzoyl peroxide 2.5%. It is licensed for acne vulgaris where there are both blackheads and inflamed spots. The adapalene acts on the way skin cells are shed inside the pore, and the benzoyl peroxide reduces the bacteria involved in acne, so the two work in different ways without an antibiotic.

Apply a thin film once daily in the evening to the whole affected area after washing and drying the skin, avoiding the eyes, lips, nostrils and broken skin. Dryness, redness, peeling and stinging are common in the first weeks and usually settle; using it every other day to begin with can help. Benzoyl peroxide bleaches hair and fabric, so keep it away from clothing, towels and bedding, and the gel increases sensitivity to sunlight. It should not be used in pregnancy or if you are trying to conceive.
