Description
Hedrin Lotion contains dimeticone 4% and is used to treat head lice. It is not an insecticide. Dimeticone is a silicone that coats the louse and blocks the openings it uses to manage water, which kills it physically rather than chemically, so lice do not become resistant to it in the way they can to older treatments. The lotion is applied to dry hair, worked over the whole scalp and along the hair to the ends, and left to dry naturally, then washed out with ordinary shampoo after the time given in the leaflet.
A second application is needed about a week later to deal with lice that hatch after the first. Everyone in the household should be checked, and only those with live lice treated. Keep it away from the eyes and from flames or heat while the hair is wet, as the lotion is flammable. Ask the pharmacist about use in young children.
