Description
Kelhale contains beclometasone dipropionate, an inhaled corticosteroid used as a preventer in asthma. Taken every day, it reduces the swelling and irritation in the airways that lead to symptoms and attacks, so it works over weeks rather than in the moment. It is not a reliever and will not ease sudden wheeze or breathlessness; keep a short-acting reliever inhaler for that.
The beclometasone in Kelhale is extrafine, which means the dose is not interchangeable with beclometasone inhalers that are not extrafine; do not switch brands without advice, and check the strength on the canister when you collect a new supply. Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after each dose to lower the chance of oral thrush and a hoarse voice.
Tell your prescriber if you have tuberculosis or a chest infection, and contact them if your symptoms worsen.
