Description
Kliovance is a continuous combined hormone replacement therapy tablet containing estradiol with norethisterone acetate. The oestrogen replaces what the ovaries no longer make, and the progestogen protects the lining of the womb from the thickening oestrogen alone can cause. One tablet is taken every day at about the same time, with no break between packs, so a monthly bleed is not expected; irregular bleeding or spotting is common in the first few months and should be reported if it carries on.
This type of HRT is intended for women whose last period was some time ago rather than for those still having periods. It carries small increases in the risk of breast cancer, blood clots in the legs and lungs, and stroke, depending on your age, your history and how long you take it. It is not a contraceptive.
