Description

Opticrom eye drops contain sodium cromoglicate 2%. It is a mast cell stabiliser, which means it reduces the release of histamine and other substances from cells in the surface of the eye rather than blocking histamine after it is released. The drops are used for the itching, redness and watering of allergic conjunctivitis, including the eye symptoms of hay fever.

The usual dose is one or two drops into each eye four times a day. Because the medicine works by prevention, it is used regularly rather than only when the eyes feel sore, and it may take several days of consistent use before the benefit is clear. Wash your hands before use and do not let the dropper touch the eye. If you wear contact lenses, ask the pharmacist, as the drops contain a preservative.

Tell the pharmacist if the eye is painful, if vision changes, or if symptoms do not settle.
