Description
A device that grinds a tablet into powder between two textured surfaces, usually by screwing the lid down and turning it. It is used when a tablet cannot be swallowed whole and a pharmacist has confirmed that crushing is appropriate. Many tablets must not be crushed. Modified release, enteric coated and film coated tablets, and capsules, are generally unsuitable, and crushing them can release a dose too quickly or destroy the medicine, so always check first.
Some medicines are also hazardous to handle as powder. Clean the chamber between medicines so residue is not carried from one dose to the next, and keep it out of reach of children.
