Description
Piriton Allergy Tablets contain chlorphenamine maleate, a sedating antihistamine. They are licensed to relieve allergic symptoms including hay fever and other allergic rhinitis, itchy skin rashes and urticaria, and the itching and swelling that follow insect bites and stings. Chlorphenamine blocks the action of histamine, the substance released during an allergic reaction that causes much of the itching, redness and swelling.
Tablets are swallowed with water, and the dose is repeated through the day up to the maximum stated in the leaflet. Drowsiness is common, so do not drive or use tools or machines until you know how the tablets affect you, and avoid alcohol. Tell the pharmacist if you have glaucoma, an enlarged prostate or difficulty passing urine, epilepsy, liver disease, or if you take a sedative or an antidepressant. Ask a pharmacist before using them in pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
