Description
Qlaira is a combined oral contraceptive that uses estradiol valerate as its oestrogen rather than ethinylestradiol, paired with the progestogen dienogest. It is licensed to prevent pregnancy, and it is also licensed to treat heavy menstrual bleeding in people who want oral contraception and who have no underlying gynaecological cause.
The doses change across the cycle, so tablets must be taken in the order marked on the pack. Each pack contains 28 tablets, including inactive ones, and there is no break between packs. Missed pill advice depends on which tablets were missed, so check the leaflet. Combined pills raise the risk of blood clots in the veins and arteries.
Qlaira is not suitable if you have migraine with aura, a history of clot, or certain liver, heart and circulatory conditions. Tell your prescriber about all other medicines. It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
