Description
Strepsils Sore Throat and Cough lozenges contain two mild antiseptics, amylmetacresol and 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol. Both act on the surface of the throat against some of the bacteria associated with mouth and throat infections, and the lozenge base itself coats and soothes the lining as it dissolves, which is what eases the tickle that keeps setting off a cough.
This presentation is intended for a sore throat that comes with a dry, tickly cough. A lozenge is sucked slowly and allowed to dissolve rather than chewed or swallowed whole, and the leaflet sets out how many may be taken in a day and how far apart. Most sore throats are caused by viruses and settle within about a week without antibiotics.
See a doctor if the sore throat lasts longer, if there is a high fever, a rash, or difficulty swallowing or breathing.
