Description
Treclin Gel combines clindamycin, an antibiotic, with tretinoin, a retinoid. It is licensed for acne vulgaris where there are both blackheads and inflamed spots. The clindamycin reduces the bacteria involved in acne, and the tretinoin acts on the way skin cells are shed inside the pore so that blockages clear more readily.
Apply a thin film once daily in the evening to the whole affected area after washing and drying the skin, not to individual spots. Avoid the eyes, lips, nostrils and broken skin, and do not use it on sunburnt or eczematous skin. Dryness, redness, peeling and stinging are common early on and usually settle. Tretinoin increases sensitivity to sunlight, so use sun protection and avoid sunlamps.
It should not be used in pregnancy or if you are trying to conceive. Antibiotic-containing treatment is limited in length to reduce resistance, so a prescriber will review how long you use it.
