Description
Vitaros is a cream containing alprostadil, used for erectile dysfunction in adult men. Alprostadil is a prostaglandin. Unlike tablet treatments, it is applied directly to the penis rather than swallowed, and it works locally to widen the blood vessels so more blood can flow in. Each single use applicator delivers one dose to the opening at the tip of the penis, and the applicator is thrown away after use.
It is used shortly before sexual activity and not more often than the leaflet allows. Hands should be washed before and after use. A condom is advised if your partner is pregnant, and the cream can cause irritation or burning for the user and for a partner. Local reactions such as burning, redness and pain are the most common side effects.
Tell your prescriber about any penile deformity, sickle cell disease or a condition that makes prolonged erection more likely, and seek urgent care for an erection lasting more than four hours.
