Description
Zanidip contains lercanidipine hydrochloride, a calcium channel blocker of the dihydropyridine group. It relaxes and widens the small arteries, which lowers blood pressure, and it is licensed for mild to moderate essential high blood pressure in adults. The tablet is taken once daily in the morning, at least fifteen minutes before food, because a large or fatty meal increases how much medicine is absorbed.
Swallow it with water. Ankle swelling, flushing, headache and palpitations are recognised effects and are more common at higher doses. Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice while taking it. Tell your prescriber if you have liver or kidney problems, any heart valve problem or heart failure, and about every other medicine you take, because lercanidipine interacts with several, including some antifungal and antibiotic medicines and ciclosporin. It should not be taken in pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
