Description
Alomide eye drops contain lodoxamide 0.1%. Lodoxamide is a mast cell stabiliser, so it reduces the release of histamine and other inflammatory substances from cells in the surface of the eye rather than blocking histamine after it has been released. The drops are used for allergic eye conditions, including allergic conjunctivitis and the more persistent forms such as vernal keratoconjunctivitis.
The usual dose is one or two drops into each affected eye four times a day. Because the medicine works by prevention, it is used regularly rather than only when the eyes feel sore, and it can take several days of consistent use before the benefit is clear. Brief stinging or burning when the drop goes in is common. Remove contact lenses before use.
Tell your prescriber if the eye becomes painful, if vision changes, or if symptoms do not improve.
