Description
Betmiga contains mirabegron, a beta-3 adrenoceptor agonist. It works differently from the antimuscarinic medicines used for the same problem, relaxing the bladder muscle so the bladder can hold more urine. It is licensed for the symptoms of overactive bladder in adults: urgency, passing urine more often than usual, and urge incontinence.
The prolonged-release tablet is swallowed whole with water once a day, with or without food, and is not chewed or crushed. Mirabegron can raise blood pressure, so your blood pressure should be measured before treatment starts and checked during it. It is not suitable if you have severe uncontrolled high blood pressure.
Tell your prescriber if you have kidney or liver problems, a heart rhythm disorder, or if you take digoxin, metoprolol or medicines processed by the same liver enzymes. Urinary tract infection, headache and a fast heartbeat can occur.
