Description
Catephen ointment contains sinecatechins, a defined extract of green tea leaves. It is used to treat external genital and perianal warts in adults whose immune system is working normally. The way it acts on wart tissue is not fully established. A thin layer is applied to each wart with a fingertip, three times a day, and it is not washed off between applications; treatment continues until the warts have cleared, and there is a maximum length of treatment that your prescriber will tell you.
It is for external skin only and is not put inside the vagina, the anus or the urethra. Redness, itching, burning, swelling and small breaks in the skin at the treated area are common and are usually mild to moderate. The ointment can weaken latex condoms and diaphragms, so barrier contraception may be unreliable during treatment. Warts can come back after treatment, and sexual partners may need assessment.
