Description

Circadin contains melatonin 2mg in a prolonged-release tablet. Melatonin is a hormone the body makes in the evening as part of the sleep and waking cycle, and the tablet releases it slowly through the night to mimic that pattern. It is licensed as a treatment on its own for primary insomnia with poor quality sleep in older adults.

One tablet is taken one to two hours before bedtime and after food. Swallow it whole, because crushing or chewing it would release the melatonin all at once. Treatment is given as a defined course and then reviewed rather than continued indefinitely. Melatonin can make you drowsy, so do not drive or use tools if you are affected, and avoid alcohol.

Tell your prescriber if you have liver or kidney problems, an autoimmune condition, or if you take fluvoxamine, a medicine for epilepsy, or any medicine that causes drowsiness.
