Description
Colgate Duraphat is a high fluoride toothpaste, supplied on prescription for people at raised risk of tooth decay. That includes people with a dry mouth, those wearing orthodontic appliances, those with exposed root surfaces, and anyone with a history of repeated cavities. Fluoride is taken up into the tooth surface, making enamel more resistant to the acid that plaque bacteria produce.
Two strengths are made, 2800 and 5000 parts per million, and each has its own minimum age and its own amount to use, so follow the instruction on your prescription. Brush with it in place of ordinary toothpaste, usually three times a day after meals, then spit out the excess and do not rinse with water, because rinsing washes the fluoride away.
Keep it out of reach of children, as swallowing a large amount is harmful. Tell your dentist about any other fluoride product you use.
