Description
Cymalon contains sodium citrate. It is not an antibiotic and it does not treat the infection itself; it works by making the urine less acidic, which can ease the stinging and burning of mild cystitis while the body deals with the infection. The granules come in sachets that are dissolved in water and drunk. A full course is taken over a short period, following the instructions on the pack, and drinking plenty of water alongside helps.
Because it contains sodium, speak to the pharmacist first if you have high blood pressure, heart or kidney problems, diabetes, or if you are on a low salt diet, pregnant or breastfeeding. See a prescriber if your symptoms do not improve, if you have a temperature, back or side pain, blood in your urine, or if cystitis keeps coming back, because those need assessment rather than symptom relief.
