Description
Dettol Liquid is an antiseptic disinfectant containing chloroxylenol 4.8% w/v, in a 750ml bottle. It is used for cleansing minor cuts, grazes, bites and stings, and for general disinfection around the home, including surfaces and laundry. For use on skin it is always diluted in water and never applied neat; the concentrate turns cloudy white when it is mixed.
Follow the dilution stated on the label for each purpose, because the strength used on skin differs from the strength used for household cleaning. Keep it away from the eyes and out of the mouth, and do not use it on large areas of broken skin, on a deep wound, or on a wound with something embedded in it. Stop using it if the skin becomes sore, itchy or reddened, which can be a reaction to the preparation.
A wound with spreading redness, swelling, pus or increasing pain needs assessment rather than further self treatment.
