Description
Elocon Cream contains mometasone furoate 0.1%, a potent topical corticosteroid. It reduces the inflammation, redness and itching of steroid-responsive skin conditions, and is licensed for eczema and dermatitis and for psoriasis other than widespread plaque psoriasis. It is applied thinly once a day, which is fewer applications than several other potent steroids need.
The cream base is lighter and less greasy than the ointment, so it suits moist areas and skin that is not thickened. Treatment is meant to be short and the skin is reviewed, because prolonged use of a potent steroid can thin the skin, cause stretch marks and, when large areas are treated, be absorbed enough to affect the adrenal glands.
Do not use it on untreated skin infections, acne, rosacea or perioral dermatitis, and keep it away from the eyes. Tell your prescriber if the skin does not improve or becomes infected.
