Description
Eumovate Ointment contains clobetasone butyrate 0.05%, a moderately potent topical corticosteroid. It sits between hydrocortisone and the potent steroids in strength, and is used for eczema and dermatitis, including atopic eczema and reactions to irritants. The greasy ointment base holds moisture in the skin, so it is usually chosen for dry, scaly or cracked areas rather than weeping ones.
Apply a thin film to the affected skin once or twice a day and stop when the flare has settled; emollients are continued between flares. Steroid ointments are not applied to untreated bacterial, fungal or viral skin infections, and are used sparingly on the face and in skin folds, where the skin is thinner and more of the steroid is absorbed.
Tell your prescriber if the eczema weeps, crusts or becomes painful, or if it has not improved by the end of the course.
