Description

Fluconazole 150mg is a triazole antifungal supplied as a single capsule. It treats vaginal thrush and, in men, candidal balanitis. The capsule is swallowed whole with water, with or without food, and it acts through the bloodstream rather than only at the site of the infection, so an internal pessary is not needed; a cream may still be used for external soreness.

Itching and discharge usually begin to settle within a few days. Fluconazole should not be taken in pregnancy, and advice is needed if you are breastfeeding. It interacts with several medicines, including warfarin, some statins and certain antihistamines. Speak to the pharmacist before using it if this is your first episode of thrush, if you have had more than two episodes in six months, if you have abnormal bleeding, sores, pelvic pain or a fever, or if you or a partner may have been exposed to a sexually transmitted infection.
