Description
Hibiscrub is an antiseptic skin cleanser containing chlorhexidine gluconate 4% w/v, supplied as a 500ml cutaneous solution. It is used for washing the skin before a procedure, for hand disinfection by healthcare staff, and where a clinician has asked for antiseptic washing of a particular area. It is applied to wet skin, worked into a lather, left in contact for the time given in the instructions, then rinsed off thoroughly with water.
It is a wash, not a leave on preparation, and it is not intended to be used as an everyday soap. Keep it out of the eyes and away from the ear canal, since chlorhexidine can damage the eye and the middle ear, and away from the brain, the meninges and other body cavities. Chlorhexidine can cause severe allergic reactions in a small number of people.
Stop using it and get medical help if a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheeze or faintness occurs.
