Description
Indapamide is a thiazide-like diuretic. It acts on the kidneys to help the body remove salt and water, and it also relaxes blood vessels, which together lower blood pressure. It is licensed for essential high blood pressure in adults. The tablet is taken once daily in the morning, with or without food; taking it in the morning means any extra visits to the toilet happen during the day.
Indapamide can lower the level of potassium and sodium in your blood and raise the level of uric acid, so your prescriber will arrange blood tests and will ask about gout. Tell your prescriber if you have kidney or liver problems, diabetes, gout, or any heart rhythm problem, and if you take lithium or a medicine that affects the heart rhythm.
The skin can become more sensitive to sunlight, so use sun protection. This medicine is not recommended in pregnancy.
