Description

Jentadueto contains linagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor, with metformin, a biguanide, in one tablet for type 2 diabetes. Linagliptin works with the gut hormones that prompt insulin release after eating, while metformin lowers the glucose the liver produces and helps the body use its own insulin. One tablet is usually taken twice a day with food, which reduces the nausea, wind and loose stools metformin can cause when treatment begins.

Linagliptin is cleared largely by the liver rather than the kidneys, but the metformin part still depends on kidney function, so your kidneys are checked before treatment and at intervals afterwards, and treatment is paused around scans using iodinated contrast dye and around surgery. Tell your prescriber if you have kidney, liver or heart problems, if you have had pancreatitis, or if you drink alcohol heavily, and report severe, persistent stomach pain.
