Description
Locoid Crelo contains hydrocortisone butyrate 0.1%. Despite the hydrocortisone name this is a potent topical corticosteroid, not the mild hydrocortisone sold over the counter. The base is a light emulsion that pours and spreads easily, which makes it useful for large areas and for hairy skin including the scalp, where a cream or an ointment is awkward to apply.
Apply a small amount to the affected skin, usually once or twice a day, and reduce the frequency as the flare settles. Use it sparingly on the face and in skin folds, and keep it away from the eyes. Long or repeated courses of a potent steroid can thin the skin, and treating large areas allows more of it to be absorbed.
Tell your prescriber if the skin becomes crusted, weeping or painful, which can suggest infection, or if it does not improve.
