Description
The Mini-Wright AFS low range peak flow meter measures peak expiratory flow, the fastest speed at which air can be blown out of the lungs in a single hard breath. Readings are used to track how open the airways are over time and to help judge whether a treatment plan is working. The low range version covers lower flows than the standard meter, so it suits children and adults whose readings sit at the bottom of the scale.
To use it, set the marker to zero, stand or sit upright, take a full breath in, seal the lips around the mouthpiece and blow out as hard and fast as possible, then record the best of three attempts. A single reading means little on its own; the pattern over days is what matters.
- Measures peak expiratory flow, the fastest speed of a forced breath out
- Low range scale for children and adults with lower readings
- Record the best of three attempts, taken the same way each time
- Used to track a pattern over time, not to diagnose
- Readings should be interpreted alongside a treatment plan
