Description
Norethisterone 5mg is a progestogen tablet. Taken before a period is due, it keeps the level of progestogen high enough to hold the lining of the womb in place, so bleeding is postponed until the tablets are stopped; a period usually follows two or three days after the last one. The tablets are started a few days before the period is expected and taken several times a day for as long as the delay is needed, up to a limited number of days.
At this dose it is not a contraceptive, so keep using your usual method. It is not suitable if you have had a blood clot in a vein or lung, certain liver conditions, unexplained bleeding from the vagina, or a hormone-dependent cancer. Tell your prescriber if you get migraine, if you smoke, or if a long flight is planned.
