Description

Ovranette is a combined oral contraceptive containing levonorgestrel 150 micrograms and ethinylestradiol 30 micrograms. It is licensed to prevent pregnancy. It works mainly by preventing the release of an egg each month, with additional effects on cervical mucus and on the lining of the womb. One tablet is taken at about the same time each day for 21 days, then a seven day break follows, during which a withdrawal bleed usually happens; the next strip starts on the eighth day.

If you miss a tablet, the advice depends on how late it is and where you are in the strip, so check the leaflet and use extra precautions if it tells you to. Combined pills raise the risk of blood clots. Ovranette is not suitable if you have migraine with aura or a history of clot. Tell your prescriber if you smoke, are over 35, or take medicines for epilepsy, tuberculosis or HIV.
