Description
Rozex Gel contains metronidazole, used on the skin rather than taken by mouth. It is licensed for the treatment of the inflammatory papules, pustules and redness of rosacea. Applied to the skin, metronidazole acts mainly by reducing inflammation rather than by clearing an infection. A thin layer is spread over the affected areas of the face on clean, dry skin, usually twice a day, morning and evening, avoiding the eyes and the inside of the nose and mouth.
A moisturiser or make-up may be applied once the gel has dried. A course usually lasts several months before the response is judged. Skin dryness, redness, stinging, itching and irritation can occur. Sunlight and sunbeds can aggravate rosacea, so avoid strong sun and use sun protection. Tell your prescriber if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
