Description

Scheriproct ointment combines prednisolone hexanoate, a corticosteroid, with cinchocaine hydrochloride, a local anaesthetic. The corticosteroid reduces inflammation, swelling and itching, and the local anaesthetic numbs the area to ease pain and soreness. It is used for haemorrhoids and other painful conditions around the anus, such as anal fissure and inflammation of the anal lining.

A small amount is applied to the affected area, usually after a bowel movement and at night, using the applicator supplied for internal use. Wash and dry the area first, and wash your hands afterwards. Because it contains a corticosteroid, it is used for a short course rather than continuously, and treatment is reviewed if symptoms persist.

Tell your prescriber if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if there is any bleeding you have not had assessed, or if the area becomes more painful or shows signs of infection.
