Description
Warticon cream contains podophyllotoxin at 1.5mg per gram, applied to external genital warts. Podophyllotoxin is an antimitotic: it stops the cells of the wart tissue dividing, so the tissue breaks down over the following days. It is applied with a fingertip twice a day for three days in a row, followed by four days with no treatment, and that weekly cycle may be repeated for a limited number of weeks as your prescriber directs.
Apply it to the warts only, keeping it off surrounding healthy skin, and wash your hands after each application. There are limits on the number of warts and the total area that may be treated at one time. Soreness, redness, burning and small ulcers at the treated site are common in the first few days. It must not be used in pregnancy, and reliable contraception is needed; tell your prescriber if you are breastfeeding or trying to conceive.
