Description
Alli contains orlistat 60mg, a lower strength of the same lipase inhibitor used at 120mg. It works in the gut, stopping some of the fat in a meal from being digested and absorbed, so that fat passes out of the body instead. It is licensed for weight management in adults from the age of 18 who are overweight, alongside a reduced-calorie and lower-fat diet.
One capsule is taken with each main meal that contains fat, immediately before, during, or up to one hour after; the dose is skipped when a meal contains no fat or is missed. Oily or fatty stools, wind with discharge and a sudden need to open the bowels are common, and are more likely after a fatty meal. Tell the pharmacist or prescriber if you take ciclosporin, warfarin, levothyroxine, amiodarone or medicines for HIV or epilepsy.
