Description
Bragg’s Medicinal Charcoal Tablets contain activated charcoal and are taken by mouth for the relief of wind, bloating and indigestion. Activated charcoal has a very large surface area, which allows gas in the gut to adsorb onto it. Tablets are taken with water as directed on the pack, and the stools may turn black while they are being taken, which is expected and harmless.
Charcoal can reduce the absorption of other medicines taken at the same time, so leave a gap of at least two hours either side of any other medicine, including the contraceptive pill. Symptoms that persist, or a change in bowel habit that does not settle, need assessment rather than continued self treatment.
