Description
Canesten Thrush Combi is a two part treatment for vaginal thrush. It pairs a single pessary, inserted high into the vagina at bedtime, with a tube of antifungal cream applied to the skin around the vulva for external itching and soreness. Both parts contain clotrimazole, an imidazole antifungal that acts where it is applied rather than throughout the body.
The pessary is used once. The cream is applied to the affected skin for as long as the leaflet directs, and is not a substitute for the pessary. Symptoms usually begin to settle within a few days. Clotrimazole preparations can damage latex condoms and diaphragms, so other contraception is needed for several days. A first episode of thrush, symptoms in anyone under 16 or over 60, more than two episodes in six months, abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, sores, a fever or a change in discharge all need assessment rather than self treatment.
