Description
Cerelle is a progestogen-only pill containing desogestrel 75 micrograms. It contains no oestrogen, so it can be used by people for whom a combined pill is unsuitable, including those with migraine with aura and those who smoke over the age of 35. It is licensed to prevent pregnancy and works mainly by preventing ovulation.
One tablet is taken daily at about the same time with no break between strips, and every tablet in the strip is active. If a tablet is more than 12 hours late, additional precautions are needed for seven days. Bleeding patterns often change: some people have no bleeding at all, others have irregular spotting, and neither means the pill has stopped working.
Tell your prescriber if you have had breast cancer, liver problems or unexplained vaginal bleeding, and about medicines that induce liver enzymes, such as some epilepsy treatments. It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
