Description
Differin Gel contains adapalene 0.1%, a retinoid-like medicine applied to the skin. It is licensed for acne vulgaris where there are blackheads, whiteheads and inflamed spots. Adapalene works on the way skin cells are shed inside the pore, so it helps to clear existing blockages and reduce new ones forming. Apply a thin film once daily in the evening to the whole affected area after washing and drying the skin, avoiding the eyes, lips, nostrils and broken skin.
The gel base suits oilier skin. Dryness, redness, peeling and a stinging feeling are common in the first weeks and usually settle; applying it every other day at first can help. Adapalene increases sensitivity to sunlight, so use sun protection and avoid sunlamps. It should not be used in pregnancy or if you are trying to conceive.
Acne takes time to respond, so allow several weeks of regular use before judging the effect.
