Description
Drapolene Cream is a mild antiseptic barrier cream containing benzalkonium chloride and cetrimide. It is licensed for the treatment and prevention of nappy rash, and for minor skin conditions such as chapped or chafed skin and superficial burns. It works in two ways: the water repellent base keeps urine and moisture away from the skin, and the antiseptics reduce some of the bacteria on the surface.
For nappy rash it is applied at every nappy change, to skin that has been cleaned and dried first, and nappy free time helps as much as any cream. It is for external use only and is kept away from the eyes. Seek advice if the rash spreads, blisters or weeps, if it involves the skin creases, or if it has not improved within a few days, because a rash of that kind may be thrush and needs different treatment.
