Description
Efracea contains doxycycline 40mg in a modified-release capsule. The dose is lower than the antibiotic dose of doxycycline and is used for its anti-inflammatory effect rather than to treat an infection. It is licensed for the reduction of the papules and pustules of facial rosacea in adults. One capsule is taken once a day in the morning, on an empty stomach, with a full glass of water; stay sitting or standing for a while afterwards so the capsule does not irritate the gullet.
Doxycycline can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight, so avoid strong sun and sunbeds and use sun protection. It is not suitable in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, or for children, because tetracyclines affect developing teeth and bones. Tell your prescriber if you take antacids, iron or indigestion remedies, as these reduce absorption.
