Description
Flixotide contains fluticasone propionate, an inhaled corticosteroid used as a preventer in asthma. Taken every day, it reduces the swelling and irritation in the airways that make symptoms and attacks more likely, and the benefit builds over days and weeks rather than appearing at once. It is not a reliever, so it will not ease sudden wheeze or breathlessness; keep a short-acting reliever inhaler for that.
It comes as the Evohaler, a pressurised inhaler you shake and press, and the Accuhaler, a dry powder device you load and breathe in from; the strengths differ between the two, so check the label when you collect a new supply. Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after each dose to lower the chance of oral thrush and a hoarse voice. Tell your prescriber if you have tuberculosis or a chest infection.
