Description
Relvar Ellipta combines fluticasone furoate, an inhaled corticosteroid, with vilanterol, a long-acting beta-2 agonist, in a dry powder device. The steroid reduces the inflammation that underlies asthma and vilanterol relaxes the muscle around the airways, and the pair last long enough to be taken once a day. It is used as regular treatment for asthma, and the lower strength is also used in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
It is not a reliever and does not treat a sudden attack; keep a short-acting reliever inhaler for that. Open the cover to load a dose, breathe in steadily and deeply through the mouthpiece, then close the cover; opening the cover without inhaling wastes a dose. Rinse your mouth with water afterwards. Tell your prescriber if you have heart rhythm problems, thyroid disease, diabetes, liver problems or a history of tuberculosis.
