Description
Fostair is a pressurised inhaler containing beclometasone dipropionate, an inhaled corticosteroid, with formoterol, a long-acting beta-2 agonist. The steroid settles inflammation in the airways and formoterol relaxes the muscle around them, so it is used as regular treatment for asthma where a combination inhaler is appropriate, and at the lower strength in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The beclometasone particles in Fostair are extrafine, so the dose is not interchangeable with other beclometasone inhalers; do not switch brands without advice. Some asthma regimens use Fostair as both the daily preventer and the inhaler taken for symptoms, but only where a prescriber has set it up that way and explained it.
Rinse your mouth with water after each dose. Tell your prescriber about heart rhythm problems, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes or a low blood potassium level, and contact them if your symptoms get worse.
