Description
Gaviscon Infant is an alginate powder supplied in sachets, used for reflux and regurgitation in babies and young children. Mixed with feed or with water, the alginate forms a soft raft on top of the stomach contents, making it harder for them to come back up the gullet. It does not reduce stomach acid. Each dose is prepared according to the instructions on the pack: the powder is mixed into liquid, and the dose depends on the child’s weight and on whether they are breastfed or bottle fed.
It is not given more than six times in twenty-four hours, and it is not suitable for premature babies or when a child has a fever, diarrhoea, vomiting or is at risk of dehydration. Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use in a young infant, and if feeding or growth is a concern.
