Description
Levitra contains vardenafil, a PDE5 inhibitor licensed for erectile dysfunction in adult men. It relaxes the blood vessels in the penis so more blood can flow in during sexual arousal; sexual stimulation is still needed for it to work. One tablet is taken shortly before sexual activity, and no more than one dose should be taken in 24 hours.
A heavy or fatty meal may delay the effect. The orodispersible tablet is placed on the tongue and left to dissolve without water; it is not interchangeable dose for dose with the ordinary film-coated tablet. Vardenafil must never be taken with nitrates such as glyceryl trinitrate or isosorbide, or with nicorandil, because together they can cause a dangerous fall in blood pressure.
It is not suitable with certain heart conditions or with some antiarrhythmic medicines. Headache, flushing, indigestion and a blocked nose are the most common side effects.
