Description

Lymecycline is a tetracycline antibiotic taken by mouth and licensed for acne vulgaris. It reduces the bacteria involved in inflamed spots and lowers the inflammation that makes them red and sore. The usual course is one capsule daily, taken at about the same time each day, and it is normally continued for at least eight weeks before the response is judged.

Swallow the capsule with a full glass of water while sitting or standing upright. Do not take it at the same time as antacids, indigestion remedies, or supplements containing iron, zinc or calcium, as these reduce absorption. Tetracyclines increase sensitivity to sunlight, so take care in strong sun and avoid sunlamps.

Lymecycline is not suitable in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, or for children under 12, because tetracyclines can affect developing teeth and bones. Tell your prescriber if you have kidney or liver problems, myasthenia gravis or lupus, or if you take warfarin or an oral retinoid.
